Disease Mechanisms Rooted in Cell Growth and Cell-Cycle Dysregulation
Precise coordination of cell growth and cell-cycle progression is essential for maintaining tissue integrity and organismal health. When these regulatory systems are disrupted, cells may proliferate inappropriately, fail to repair damage, or enter pathological states that contribute to a wide range of human diseases. Defects in cell-cycle checkpoints, together with abnormal signaling through key pathways such as p53, cyclins, and CDKs, are well recognized in cancer but are increasingly implicated in non-cancer conditions, including developmental disorders, neurodegenerative diseases, fibrosis, and impaired tissue regeneration. The mechanisms by which these disruptions interact with genetic background, epigenetic regulation, and environmental influences remain an active and critical area of investigation. This Research Topic focuses on disease mechanisms that arise specifically from dysregulated cell growth and cell-cycle control. Our goal is to highlight mechanistic insights, identify vulnerable regulatory nodes, uncover emerging molecular players, and explore therapeutic strategies that either restore normal cell-cycle dynamics or selectively target pathological cell states. We welcome contributions from basic, translational, and interdisciplinary research that provide mechanistic depth and disease relevance. Submissions should clearly connect cell-cycle or growth dysregulation to disease phenotypes or molecular pathology. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:Molecular circuits governing cell-cycle checkpoints and their failure in diseaseRoles of oncogenes, tumor suppressors, and other regulators in aberrant cell growthCell-cycle dysregulation as a driver of non-cancer diseases (e.g., neurodegeneration, fibrosis, developmental abnormalities)Therapeutic approaches aimed at correcting cell-cycle imbalances or exploiting vulnerabilities in dysregulated cellsNovel model systems, advanced imaging, computational tools, and other technologies that enable deeper investigation of cell-cycle regulation Topic editors: Davinder Singh, Drishtant Singh Source: https://www.frontiersin.org/research-topics/77626/disease-mechanisms-rooted-in-cell-growth-and-cell-cycle-dysregulation
