Eco-Omics Approaches in Nematode–Plant–Soil Microbiome Interactions

The field of Eco-Omics has emerged as a powerful tool in understanding the interactions between nematodes, plants, and soil microbiomes. These interactions form a complex ecological network that significantly influences soil health, plant growth, and ecosystem resilience. Despite the critical roles these interactions play, our understanding of their underlying mechanisms and ecological impact remains limited. Recent studies have highlighted the potential of eco-omics to unravel these complex relationships, offering new prospects for sustainable agriculture and ecological conservation. However, significant gaps remain, particularly in translating omics-based findings into practical applications. This Research Topic aims to harness the power of Eco-Omics to advance our understanding of nematode-plant-soil microbiome interactions. By focusing on the molecular and genetic underpinnings of these relationships, the goal is to shed light on how these organisms collectively influence ecosystem functionality. This includes investigating specific biochemical pathways, genetic interactions, and the influence of environmental factors on these interactions. Ultimately, the research seeks to develop innovative strategies for enhancing plant resilience and optimizing agricultural practices. To gather further insights into the scope of eco-omics applications and their relevance to ecological and agricultural systems, we welcome articles addressing, but not limited to, the following themes:- Molecular mechanisms mediating nematode and soil microbiome interactions- Eco-omics approaches for improving plant health and resistance- Environmental and genetic factors influencing nematode-plant-soil dynamics- Bioinformatics tools for analyzing complex eco-omics data- Case studies on the ecological impact of nematode-plant-microbiome interactions- Nematode omics, including transcriptomics, proteomics, and genome-based studies, particularly in relation to host–microbiome interactions and resistance mechanisms.- Post-treatment metagenomics, highlighting the impact of nematode management strategies (chemical, biological, or plant-derived compounds) on soil microbiota structure and function.- Root and rhizosphere metabolomics, to understand the biochemical basis of plant–nematode–microbe interactions under biotic stress. We encourage contributions in various article formats, such as original research, reviews, and methodological advances, to enrich this collection examining the intersection of eco-omics and nematode-plant-soil microbiome interactions.
