Emerging Catalytic Technologies for Sustainable Energy and Chemistry
Achieving climate neutrality demands a fundamental shift in how we produce energy and chemicals. Circular carbon strategies, renewable energy storage, and low-emission chemical manufacturing are now central research priorities. Advances in catalyst design, reaction engineering, and process integration are driving efficient pathways for CO₂ conversion, hydrogen generation, and biomass valorization, while biocatalysis, photocatalysis, and electrocatalysis are emerging as key enabling technologies for sustainable and decentralized production. The VII Young SECAT Congress, organized by the Spanish Catalysis Society, brings together early-career researchers to address these challenges across disciplines and borders. This Research Topic welcomes high-quality contributions aligned with the scientific themes of the congress and is open to all researchers working in these areas. This Research Topic aims to provide a focused platform for innovative research at the interface of catalysis, energy, and sustainability. It highlights work led by early-career scientists, covering both fundamental and applied aspects of catalytic and sustainable chemical technologies. The Topic promotes cross-disciplinary exchange by bringing together studies on catalyst development, advanced characterization, reaction engineering, and process modelling. It also encourages contributions exploring emerging tools such as computational chemistry and machine learning to accelerate catalyst discovery and process optimization. By showcasing recent advances and forward-looking perspectives from the VII Young SECAT Congress and the broader catalysis community, this Research Topic seeks to stimulate discussion, foster collaboration, and support the development of efficient and sustainable solutions for energy and chemical production. We welcome Original Research, Review, Mini Review and Perspective articles on themes including, but not limited to:• H₂ and CO₂: generation, capture, and utilization• Synthesis of new catalysts and advanced characterization• Catalysis, industrial applications, and process simulation• Biocatalysis, photocatalysis, and electrocatalysis• Biomass, biorefinery, and waste valorization• Modelling, computational chemistry, and machine learning Topic editors: Tomas Ramirez Reina, Lole Jurado Source: https://www.frontiersin.org/research-topics/79736/emerging-catalytic-technologies-for-sustainable-energy-and-chemistry
