Emerging Materials and Processes for Polluted Water Remediation
Water pollution by various pollutants poses significant challenges due to their chemical stability and resistance to conventional treatments. Emerging materials for polluted water remediation have recently gained attention for their ability to drive efficient chemical transformations. These materials serve as powerful tools for understanding interfacial reaction mechanisms. For application in water remediation, the chemical interactions between materials and pollutant molecules should also be considered and evaluated, which includes research on active site engineering, electron transfer dynamics, and reaction pathway regulation under realistic aqueous conditions. This Research Topic intends to present the cutting‑edge of functionally developed emerging materials and associated chemical processes, as well as the material-pollutant interfacial chemistry. The studies will contribute to establishing design principles for next‑generation remediation materials, providing a solid reference for the rational synthesis and mechanistic understanding of these systems. This collection also encourages scientists to develop novel functional materials for the selective conversion of pollutants, and to explore the chemical mechanisms governing adsorption, catalytic activation, and degradation pathways. By integrating in situ characterization with theoretical modelling, we aim to bridge the gap between fundamental surface chemistry and practical pollutant transformation. This Research Topic is an international and interdisciplinary forum on valuable issues facing the application of emerging materials and processes for polluted water remediation.
