Enabling Technologies and Platforms for Marine Biotechnology: AI, Bioprocessing, and the Sustainable Blue Bioeconomy

Marine biotechnology is rapidly evolving from discovery-driven research toward technology-enabled, scalable and sustainable bio-industrial systems. Advances in artificial intelligence, algal biotechnology, aquaculture biotechnology, marine bioprocessing and biorefineries are transforming how marine bioresources are explored, optimised, and translated into viable bioproducts for food, materials, energy and environmental applications. This Research Topic, associated with the 14th Asia-Pacific Marine Biotechnology Conference (APMBC 2026), focuses on enabling technologies, platforms and system-level innovation underpinning next-generation marine biotechnology. In contrast to medical or health-focused collections, this topic emphasises engineering, processing, digitalisation, sustainability and scale-up frameworks that support industrial deployment and blue bioeconomy development. We welcome contributions across the APMBC 2026 conference themes, including (but not limited to):- AI for Marine Biotechnology- Algal Biotechnology- Aquaculture and Fishery Biotechnology / Blue Agri-technology- Marine Bioprocessing and Biorefineries- Marine Biomaterials (non-medical focus)- Marine Bio-energy- Marine Biodiversity and Bioresources / Marine Biodiscovery and Bioprospecting (with emphasis on translation and platform development)- Marine Food Security- Sustainability, Biosecurity, and Climate Change Topic editors: Wei Zhang, Song Qin, Sasimanas Unajak Source: https://www.frontiersin.org/research-topics/79051/enabling-technologies-and-platforms-for-marine-biotechnology-ai-bioprocessing-and-the-sustainable-blue-bioeconomy
