Endometrial Receptivity and Embryo Implantation: From Research to Clinical Practice

Endometrial receptivity and embryo implantation are pivotal processes in reproductive biology, governing the establishment and maintenance of early pregnancy. These tightly coordinated events depend on the synchronized interaction between the developing embryo and the receptive endometrium, which is regulated by a complex network of molecular, hormonal, and immunological cues. In recent years, advances in genomics, proteomics, metabolomics, and single-cell analysis have deepened our understanding of cellular remodeling, immune tolerance, and embryo-endometrial dialogue during implantation. Nevertheless, despite these advances, significant challenges remain in translating mechanistic knowledge into clinical diagnostic and therapeutic tools. Variability in endometrial receptivity assessment, incomplete understanding of molecular biomarkers, and limited success rates in assisted reproductive technologies continue to hinder progress. Further integration of basic discoveries with clinical applications is needed to improve implantation success and individualized fertility treatments. This Research Topic aims to bridge the gap between fundamental research and clinical practice by comprehensively examining the determinants of endometrial receptivity and embryo implantation. Its primary goal is to elucidate how molecular and cellular mechanisms can be leveraged to optimize clinical interventions for infertility and implantation failure. Specifically, the Research Topic seeks to explore the interplay between hormonal, immune, and metabolic factors in regulating endometrial readiness; to identify predictive biomarkers for implantation success; and to develop translational strategies for personalized treatment in assisted reproduction. By fostering collaboration between researchers and clinicians, this initiative strives to advance reproducible, evidence-based approaches that enhance fertility outcomes. This Research Topic is focused on the integration of cutting-edge molecular research and clinical translation in endometrial receptivity and embryo implantation. The scope encompasses both mechanistic and applied studies aimed at improving diagnostic precision and therapeutic efficacy. To gather further insights in this area, we welcome articles addressing, but not limited to, the following themes:o Molecular and cellular mechanisms regulating endometrial receptivity.o Embryo–endometrial communication and implantation dynamics.o Mechanisms and management strategies for recurrent implantation failure.o Hormonal, immune, and metabolic regulation of endometrial function.o Development and validation of biomarkers for implantation success.o Translational and clinical interventions to enhance implantation outcomes.o Advances in imaging, in vitro, and organoid models of implantation.
