Endometriosis: Advancing Diagnosis, Management, and Care Across the Lifespan
Endometriosis is a chronic, estrogen-dependent condition affecting individuals across the reproductive lifespan, with substantial impact on physical health, fertility, and quality of life. Diagnostic delay remains a persistent challenge, often spanning years from symptom onset to confirmed diagnosis, and management approaches continue to evolve as understanding of the disease’s underlying mechanisms deepens. The goal of this collection is to build an evidence base supporting earlier diagnosis, individualized treatment, and improved long-term outcomes and quality of life for those affected by this disease. This Research Topic welcomes original research, clinical studies, and reviews addressing - novel diagnostic approaches and biomarkers - medical and surgical management strategies and their long-term efficacy and safety - non-pharmacological interventions - models of care that improve access, awareness, and timely diagnosis Contributions examining the impact of endometriosis on quality of life, mental health, and psychosocial wellbeing are especially welcome, as are those exploring health equity and access to specialized gynecologic care. We also particularly welcome contributions addressing endometriosis in adolescents and young adults, including age-specific diagnostic and treatment considerations, as well as comparative work examining how presentation, diagnosis, or treatment differs across the lifespan.
