Ensuing Ecosystems: The Impact of AI and Digital Transformation
While the last decade was defined by the integration of digital technologies into business entities, we are now witnessing another deeper penetration of our society. The emergence of Agentic AI, autonomous systems capable of reflection, planning, and multi-agent collaboration, is shifting the focus from isolated process automation to the formation of Autonomous Ecosystems. This Research Topic welcomes contributions that explore how the adoption and adaptation of AI will redefine human and organizational dynamics. We aim to move beyond current "taxonomy conundrums" to understand how agentic systems not only fill the critical functional voids in our industrialized society, but also create opportunities for sustainable and resilient workplace and lifestyles. We specifically welcome research and application manuscripts that cover emerging topics spanning multiple domains:(a) The Transformation of Governance: How the shift toward “Compliance AI” in judicial and regulatory systems reshapes citizens’ experience of fairness, due process, and accountability.(b) Strategic Leadership and the "Executive Presence": How “Executive AI” that augments leaders with real-time, cross-functional knowledge reshapes organizational culture, managerial authority, and employees’ everyday working lives.(c) The Rise of Autonomous Ecosystems: How “Eco-Agentic AI” coordinating smart cities and sustainable supply chains changes daily life for the people who inhabit these environments.(d) Socio-Technical Impacts: Exploring the ethical, legal, and behavioral shifts occurring as governing bodies, organizations, and consumers become digitally interconnected at a societal scale.(e) Vulnerable Sections: Exploring the pros and cons of an AI-dominated society on children's upbringing, super-senior care, and people with special needs. We welcome original research, conceptual models, and multidisciplinary perspectives that provide a strategic blueprint for a future where AI and human society are natively interconnected. We will appreciate raising concerns about trends that need to be addressed.Topic Editor Johannes Vrana is director of Vrana GmbH and Topic Editor Ripi Singh is director of Plus4Pi LLC (DBA: InspiringNext).
