ENTER Conference 2026 - Digital Wellbeing and Mental Health: Challenges, Opportunities and Calls for Action
The ENTER Conference 2026 - Digital Wellbeing and Mental Health: Challenges, Opportunities and Calls for Action will be held in Lausanne, Switzerland on the 11th of June 2026. To highlight this event, Frontiers in Psychiatry is collaborating to spotlight important themes from the conference in this Research Topic. The Research Topic is open to authors who address the topic theme and is not restricted to those who presented at the conference.Digital wellbeing and mental health research have become central to understanding how technology shapes modern life. In an era where smartphones, social media, online gaming, and AI-powered platforms mediate communication, identity, and access to health resources - digital experiences profoundly influence psychological wellbeing. This connectivity brings opportunities for self-expression, learning, and support, yet also new harms—including anxiety, digital overload, and compulsive use. Recent evidence conceptualizes digital wellbeing as a multidimensional construct encompassing emotional, social, and cognitive balance in digital engagement. However, wellbeing is not evenly distributed: gender, socioeconomic status, and cultural context shape exposure to “digital stress,” highlighting an emerging digital stress divide. As the same technologies increasingly enter mental health care, we must understand how the benefits can be maximized while minimizing risks. This Research Topic aims to deepen understanding of how digital connectivity intersects with mental health and to identify strategies for fostering equitable and sustainable digital wellbeing. It seeks research that refines conceptual frameworks, explores psychometric and behavioural evidence, and examines how AI-driven mental health innovations influence care and ethics. Central goals include integrating perspectives from psychology, psychiatry, digital health, and social sciences to clarify mechanisms linking digital engagement and mental health, and to guide the ethical design of tools and interventions that support human flourishing in digital contexts.Papers should seek to advance the field by raising the visibility of rigorous empirical research, theoretical reflection, and critical analysis on the rapidly evolving landscape of digital mental health. We invite original research, reviews, mini-reviews, case reports, hypothesis and theory papers, perspectives, opinions, and commentaries. Contributions may address, but are not limited to, the following questions:- How can digital wellbeing be conceptualized, measured, and validated across contexts, cultures, life stages, and identity-based subpopulations?- What are the psychological, social, and behavioural correlates of digital wellbeing versus digital stress?- How can digital and AI-based tools be designed, implemented, and regulated to support equitable, transparent, and clinically meaningful interventions?- What ethical, methodological, and societal challenges accompany the integration of AI in mental health care?- How do digital divides shape access to and outcomes of digital mental health interventions for marginalized populations?- What roles can lived experience, co-design, and participatory approaches play in shaping digital mental health?- How can clinicians, educators, and policymakers be trained to navigate this rapidly evolving ecosystem?-What is the evidence of best practice in digital mental health?
