Environmentally Responsive Agriculture: Exploring Nexus Approaches for Soil, Plant, Animal and Human Health
Agriculture faces mounting pressure to transition from production-centric models toward approaches that are responsive to environmental, social, and health challenges. Alternatives such as organic farming, natural farming, conservation agriculture, and regenerative agriculture offer promising pathways to address these pressures — yet each carries specific conditions and trade-offs. This Research Topic aims to consolidate scientific evidence on a nexus-based framework that integrates soil, plant, animal, and human health within sustainable production systems. The concept of “one health” — recognising the interdependence of human, animal, and ecosystem health — provides a compelling lens through which to evaluate these agricultural systems. Climate change, natural resource degradation, and socio-economic dynamics are accelerating the urgency of this integration. Meanwhile, advances in modelling, remote sensing, and data analytics now enable researchers to explore multi-system interactions with greater precision. This collection invites contributions examining: (i) the environmental and health outcomes of organic, natural, and regenerative farming systems; (ii) nexus-based approaches linking soil health, water productivity, biodiversity, and greenhouse gas emissions; (iii) farming system approaches that deliver food and nutritional security while reducing environmental footprints Topic editors: Amit Anil Shahane, Yashbir Singh Shivay, Ramkrushna Idapuganti Source: https://www.frontiersin.org/research-topics/81567/environmentally-responsive-agriculture-exploring-nexus-approaches-for-soil-plant-animal-and-human-health
