Epidemiology and Control of Emerging/Re-emerging Poultry (Waterfowl) Diseases, Vol II

This Research Topic is a second volume and you can check the first edition here.Despite the significant advances in poultry or waterfowl production in recent years, infectious diseases (including viral and bacterial) remain the greatest threat to the health sustainability of poultry, especially since many emergent pathogens have been identified in global poultry populations in recent years. Poultry or waterfowl pathogen variation, antimicrobial resistance (AMR), and co-/secondary infections complicate the clinical pathogen infection situation ranging from apparent clinical outbreaks to subclinical diseases, many of which could involve multi-pathogen syndromes. Therefore, timely tracking and real-time monitoring of the epidemic characteristics, genetic variation, as well as pathogenic mechanisms of important pathogens in the field are conducive to disease control and vaccine development. Meanwhile, they are essential to ensure the health of the poultry industry. This Research Topic aims to report on the recent advances and challenges in the field, providing new insights into control and elimination strategies for poultry or waterfowl diseases. We welcome submissions of high-quality articles, in particular Original Research articles, Reviews, Opinions, and Perspectives, that cover but are not limited to the following issues:(1) Epidemiological and bioinformatics studies, including the emergence and epidemic of pathogens, genetic variation and evolution, geographical distribution and transmission characteristics, antimicrobial resistance, etc.(2) Clinical symptoms and lesions caused by pathogen infection, single or combined pathogenic pathogenesis and host responses, animal intestinal health and immune functions, etc.(3) New detection techniques and differential diagnostic methods, including novel techniques for indirect or direct detection and new methods for the differential diagnosis of these pathogens.(4) The application of new vaccines and strategies in the prevention and control of animal infectious diseases, including inactivated/attenuated vaccines, genetic engineering vaccines, viral vector vaccines, nucleic acid vaccines, bacterial outer membrane vesicular (OMVs) vaccines, novel adjuvants, and therapeutic antibodies, novel antimicrobials for veterinary use, phages or phage-derived proteins, etc. Topic editors: Weiwei Wang, Chunhe Wan, Ping Wei, Yu Huang, Matteo Legnardi Source: https://www.frontiersin.org/research-topics/81851/epidemiology-and-control-of-emergingre-emerging-poultry-waterfowl-diseases-vol-ii
