Exposome-Informed Strategies in Addressing Communicable Disease Clusters and Enhancing Public Health Prevention

Exposome-informed strategies for addressing communicable disease clusters reveal that a multifaceted approach—rooted in data, community insight, and swift action—is essential. Timely epidemiological surveillance, facilitated by digital tools, mobile health apps, and geospatial tracking, enables early detection and containment. However, effective intervention also requires culturally grounded community engagement, especially in underserved or high-risk areas.Lessons from outbreaks such as COVID-19, tuberculosis, and influenza have demonstrated that transparent communication, the rapid deployment of health resources, and interdepartmental collaboration are indispensable. Community health workers play a pivotal role, acting as bridges between medical systems and populations often disconnected from formal care, thereby ensuring both trust and a rapid response.Enhancing public health prevention requires more than infrastructure; it necessitates behavioral change, health literacy, and equitable policy support. Robust immunization networks, access to clean water, and routine health education must become foundational pillars. Informed prevention strategies emphasize the need to address the social determinants of health—such as poverty, overcrowding, and poor sanitation—that contribute to the spread of infectious diseases. Moreover, public health messaging should be science-based yet delivered empathetically, tackling misinformation and building public confidence in health systems. By investing in informed, inclusive, and preventive frameworks, we strengthen our collective capacity not only to respond to disease clusters but also to build resilient, health-secure communities for the future. The goal of this Research Topic is to explore how the exposome—a comprehensive measure of environmental exposures across the lifespan—can be effectively leveraged to identify, monitor, and mitigate communicable disease clusters. This Research Topic will focus on integrating exposomic insights into public health strategies, with an emphasis on prevention, early detection, and community engagement. By bridging environmental data with clinical and epidemiological practices, we aim to highlight scalable, equity-centered approaches that improve health outcomes in diverse populations. To gather further insights into the intricate relationships between environmental exposures and public health strategies, we welcome articles addressing, but not limited to, the following themes:o Application of exposome research for identifying environmental risk factors in disease clusterso Integration of exposomic data with epidemiology and clinical practices for informed interventionso Community-level intervention development grounded in exposome insightso Challenges and opportunities in exposome measurement, data analysis, and public health translationo Case studies demonstrating successful exposome-guided prevention strategieso Ethical considerations and strategies for community engagement in exposome researchWe welcome submissions in the form of original research papers or reviews that contribute to the advancement of this significant and interdisciplinary field.
