Fertility Preservation and Fertility‑Sparing Surgery in Gynecology and Oncology
Fertility preservation in gynecology and oncology has emerged as a central focus in women’s health due to the growing number of reproductive age cancer survivors and the increasing importance of post treatment quality of life. Advances in oncologic therapies have improved survival, yet many treatments compromise ovarian and uterine function. The field has responded with innovative fertility sparing surgical methods, such as radical trachelectomy and ovarian transposition, as well as cryopreservation techniques for ovarian tissue and oocytes. Despite progress, several questions remain unanswered regarding patient selection, timing of intervention, preservation efficacy, and long term oncologic safety. Current evidence highlights promising reproductive outcomes, but heterogeneity in methodologies, follow up standards, and outcome measurements complicates cross study comparisons and guideline formation. This Research Topic aims to explore the expanding landscape of fertility preservation and fertility sparing surgery within gynecology and oncology. It seeks to consolidate current findings, identify gaps in knowledge, and promote multidisciplinary collaboration between reproductive endocrinologists, oncologic surgeons, and researchers. Specific aims include examining postoperative reproductive potential, assessing oncologic safety, investigating biomarkers of fertility restoration, and establishing best practice frameworks. By uniting scientific and clinical perspectives, this Research Topic strives to improve patient counseling, decision making, and long term reproductive outcomes in women affected by gynecologic malignancies or treatments that threaten fertility. To gather further insights into fertility preservation strategies and their translational and clinical implications, we welcome articles addressing, but not limited to, the following themes:o Advances in ovarian tissue and oocyte cryopreservation technologies;o Uterine sparing and conservative oncologic surgical techniques;o Oncologic safety and reproductive outcomes after fertility preserving interventions;o Biomarkers predicting reproductive potential post treatment;o Psychosocial and ethical aspects of fertility counseling in cancer patients;o Translational research and experimental models for fertility conservation;o Long term follow up studies assessing maternal and neonatal outcomes.Original Research, Review, Mini Review, Clinical Trial, Hypothesis and Theory, Perspective, Opinion, and Brief Research Report articles are welcome.
