Fine motor control measurements in neuromotor disorders, Volume II
What fine motor control tests can eventually be reduced to practice in the clinician’s office? We invited investigators to submit significant preliminary results of their research that could lead to practical applications assisting clinicians or occupational therapists in prescreening or early detection of neuromotor problems in patients or children or subtle side effects or benefits of existing or novel mediation or treatments. Fundamental knowledge or research on understanding of the functioning of the fine motor control system could maybe extended in demonstrators responding to questions by clinicians or therapists to improve health care quality and costs. Research results may be targeting, though not limited to, neurogenerative disease, neurological and psychiatric disorders, typically or non-typically developing children, motor learning disorders.Of course, novel measuring procedures presented will not yet be approved as a sole tool for diagnosis or treatment of patients as this would require achieving (FDA approval in USA and maybe recognition as a health insurance billable procedure), which requires a larger-scale approach than only proof of concept which will be satisfied by statistical significance, especially, when significance can be achieved in small groups sizes of 8 – 16 participants. The common denominator is fine motor control as it is easy to measure by, but not limited to, affordable pen tablets or other low-cost computer peripherals or smart-phone gadgets or wearable movement tracking systems. Our target authors are investigators worldwide while seeking a balance between the highly industrialized countries and the recently developing countries. Our target audience should not be only fellow investigators but should also include clinicians and therapists seeking to innovate their methods and possibly contribute with data and research.
