Flexible and Wearable Nanodevices
Flexible and wearable nanodevices represent an emerging frontier in materials science, nanoengineering, and applied electronics. Over the past decade, the development of flexible devices has advanced rapidly due to the increasing need for systems that can conform to non-planar surfaces and function reliably under mechanical stress. Despite progress in biosensing, soft robotics, healthcare monitoring, and environmental detection, challenges remain in achieving high-performance, reliable, and scalable fabrication of these devices. Recent studies have emphasized innovations in nanomaterials, structural design, and integrated systems that can operate on flexible or stretchable substrates. Nonetheless, the field is still seeking breakthroughs in materials compatibility, nanoscale precision, and the co-integration of multiple functionalities within compact, wearable platforms. This Research Topic aims to highlight breakthroughs that bridge materials engineering, nanofabrication, and flexible electronics toward the creation of high-performance wearable nanodevices. It seeks to explore how novel materials and mechanical architectures can enhance sensitivity, durability, and energy efficiency. The goal is to stimulate discussion around the design principles that enable highly integrated, intelligent systems suitable for next-generation applications. Key questions include how nanoscale mechanics influence device behavior under strain, how material interfaces can be optimized for biocompatibility and data fidelity, and how flexible technologies can support artificial intelligence and Internet of Things (IoT)-based ecosystems. To gather further insights into the cross-disciplinary development of flexible and wearable nanodevices, we welcome articles that address both fundamental and applied aspects.
