From Genes to Flowers: Molecular and Evolutionary Mechanisms Underlying Floral Development and Plant Reproduction
This Research Topic explores the intricate relationships among genetic, molecular, and evolutionary processes underlying floral development and plant reproduction. We aim to provide a comprehensive overview of current research and insights in this exciting field, by exploring the following key areas. Genetic Regulation and Molecular MechanismsWe welcome contributions that investigate the roles of specific genes and regulatory pathways in controlling flower development, pollen-pistil interactions, and reproductive processes, including the interplay between transcription factors, hormones, and environmental cues. Studies examining the molecular mechanisms underlying floral organogenesis, from the early bud formation to floral maturation, are especially encouraged, with a focus on signal transduction pathways and gene expression dynamics. Evolutionary PerspectivesSubmissions addressing the evolutionary forces shaping floral traits and reproductive strategies are highly encouraged. Topics of interest include the ecological and evolutionary dynamics of plant-pollinator interactions as well as their consequences for reproductive success, adaptation, and the diversification of plant lineages. Innovative TechniquesWe invite studies employing cutting-edge methodologies, including CRISPR-based genome editing, transcriptomics, proteomics, and metabolomics, that are revolutionizing our understanding of floral biology and its implications for agriculture and conservation. Through a collection of original research articles, reviews, and perspectives, this Research Topic aims to foster interdisciplinary dialogue and ultimately enhance our understanding of how molecular and evolutionary mechanisms converge to generate the remarkable diversity of floral forms and reproductive strategies in the plant kingdom. We invite contributions that explore these themes and encourage submissions that address existing knowledge gaps, paving the way for innovative approaches to studying plant development and reproduction.
