From Waste to Wealth: Pioneering Circularity in Construction through Advanced Waste Valorization
This research topic explores the transformative potential of industrial and agricultural waste such as biomass ash, rice husk ash, and recycled polymers in creating high-performance, low-carbon construction materials. The investigation focuses on the development of "second-generation" one-part geopolymer composites and the full life-cycle assessment (LCA) of circular building components. By replacing carbon-intensive Portland cement with valorized waste streams, this research aims to provide a scalable framework for a net-zero construction industry. To develop an integrated multi-scale material design and sustainability assessment framework for second-generation one-part geopolymer composites utilizing heterogeneous industrial and agricultural wastes, incorporating experimental characterization, microstructural analysis, AI-driven mix optimization, durability modeling, and life-cycle assessment to enable scalable, circular, and net-zero construction materials. The scope welcomes original research, review articles, case studies, and interdisciplinary investigations addressing the development, characterization, optimization, and implementation of sustainable construction materials derived from industrial and agricultural waste. Contributions should advance knowledge in circular economy principles, carbon neutrality, and resource-efficient infrastructure.
