Frontiers in Photosensitivity diseases, Photodiagnostics and management of the Photodermatoses

Photosensitivity conditions include the immunological photodermatoses, cutaneous porphyrias, genetic conditions, such as xeroderma pigmentosum, and drug-induced photosensitivity. While basic mechanistic and immunologic aspects of phototoxic or photoallergic disease are covered elsewhere, clinical photodiagnostics, phototesting, and management strategies across the full spectrum of photosensitivity disorders remain fragmented. This Research Topic consolidates advances in photodiagnostics, phototesting technology, and clinical management strategies, with emphasis on developments in photodiagnostic testing and therapeutic interventions. We welcome original research, reviews, mini-reviews, clinical trials, and case reports addressing:Cutaneous porphyrias and genetic photodermatoses: Diagnostic biomarkers, molecular testing, disease monitoring, and clinical management (including xeroderma pigmentosum, erythropoietic protoporphyria, and other genophotodermatoses).Photodiagnostics, such as phototesting, and photopatch testing technology: Instrumentation advances, action spectrum characterization, and standardization.Drug- and chemical-induced photosensitivity: Diagnostic detection assays, risk prediction, and prevention strategies.Novel and repurposed therapeutics: Targeted biologics and other drug classes, JAK inhibitors, antioxidant strategies, and systemic photoprotective agents.Photoprotection advances: Sunscreen formulation science, wearable UV sensors, and behavioural interventions.Paediatric photodermatoses: Lifecycle-specific disease presentations, diagnostic and treatment approaches.Quality of life: Measurement tools, psychosocial burden, and patient-reported outcomes in chronic photosensitivity.
