Gene-Diet-Immune Interactions: Precision Approaches and Nutritional Determinants in Pediatric Respiratory Infections
Pediatric respiratory infections represent a major global health challenge. While nutritional status, including macro and micronutrients, diet quality, and bioactive compounds, is a key modifiable factor influencing infection outcomes, it is rarely studied alongside host genetics. Genetic, epigenetic, and nutritional determinants act synergistically on the exact same immune pathways. Understanding their combined impact is essential for developing targeted interventions, yet current research often evaluates these elements in isolation. This Research Topic explores how overall nutritional status and specific bioactive compounds interact with genetic factors to determine host immune responses in pediatric respiratory infections. By integrating nutrigenomics with clinical nutrition and translational epidemiology, this collection aims to advance our understanding of disease susceptibility and severity. This translational epidemiological approach is crucial, as it bridges the gap between population-level risk factors and molecular mechanisms, moving beyond observational data to directly impact clinical outcomes. The goal is to translate these integrative findings into precision care, targeted supplementation, and individualized prevention strategies for children. We welcome Original Research, Systematic Reviews, Reviews, Clinical Trials, Perspectives, Study Protocols, and Brief Research Reports addressing, but not limited to, the following topics:• Nutrigenomic interactions shaping pediatric respiratory infection outcomes• Immunomodulatory roles of specific nutrients and bioactive compounds in innate and adaptive respiratory defense• Combined genetic and nutritional signatures for predicting disease severity and treatment response• Dietary impacts on the microbiome and mucosal immunity at the airway interface• Early-life nutritional exposures and their long-term effects on respiratory immunity• Biomarker-guided supplementation trials and precision nutrition strategies in pediatric care• Translational epidemiology linking gene-diet-immune interactions to clinical outcomes and public health interventions Topic editors: Francisco Javier Turrubiates-Hernández, José Francisco Muñoz-Valle, Hazael Ramiro Ceja Gálvez, Cristian Oswaldo Hernández-Ramírez Source: https://www.frontiersin.org/research-topics/86345/gene-diet-immune-interactions-precision-approaches-and-nutritional-determinants-in-pediatric-respiratory-infections
