Gene Expression and Metabolomic Dynamics in Response to Dietary Patterns

Understanding the interplay between nutrition and molecular biology is a rapidly evolving field that combines elements of nutrigenomics and metabolomics. Recent research has demonstrated that dietary patterns and specific nutrients can induce substantial changes in gene expression and metabolic pathways, revealing both preventative and pathogenic mechanisms influencing human health. Despite these advances, many questions persist, including how individual dietary components interact with the genome, how metabolic profiles shift in response, and what these changes imply for chronic disease development or prevention. Large-scale cohort studies and technological advances in omics have provided new insights, but the sheer complexity of diet–gene–metabolite interactions presents both opportunities and challenges for researchers and clinicians striving to translate findings into meaningful dietary recommendations. This Research Topic aims to identify and characterize the molecular mechanisms by which dietary patterns modulate gene expression and metabolic profiles. The goal is to uncover the biological pathways and regulatory processes involved, to better understand how nutrition can promote health or contribute to disease. Researchers are encouraged to address questions such as which genes or metabolites are most responsive to specific dietary interventions, how these responses vary by genotype, and in what ways they contribute to disease risk or resilience. By integrating diverse methodological approaches, including transcriptomics, metabolomics, and bioinformatics, this research theme seeks to advance predictive and personalized nutrition science. To gather further insights into the intricate effects of diet on molecular and metabolic health, this Research Topic welcomes articles that analyze both mechanistic and applied aspects. Contributions may focus on, but are not limited to, the following themes:• Nutrient-driven regulation of gene expression• Metabolomic profiling of responses to dietary interventions• Dietary pattern influences on molecular pathways associated with health and disease• Inter-individual variation in gene and metabolite responses to diet• Bioinformatic and systems biology integration of nutrigenomic and metabolomic data• Identification of biomarkers for dietary exposure and health outcomes Topic editors: Julius Liobikas, Jagannath Misra, Daina Skiriute Source: https://www.frontiersin.org/research-topics/80065/gene-expression-and-metabolomic-dynamics-in-response-to-dietary-patterns
