Genetic and Molecular Mechanisms of Inflammation in Diabetes and Metabolic Dysfunction

Diabetes and related metabolic disorders arise from complex interactions between genetic susceptibility, dysregulated metabolic pathways, and chronic low-grade inflammation. Increasing evidence indicates that inflammatory signaling plays a central role in the development of insulin resistance, alterations in lipid metabolism, and the progression of metabolic complications. However, the molecular mechanisms linking genetic variation to these processes remain incompletely understood.Advances in human genetics and molecular profiling have enabled the identification of variants associated with altered gene expression, circulating protein levels, and functional changes in key metabolic and inflammatory pathways. These alterations can influence susceptibility to type 2 diabetes, modify disease progression, and contribute to inter-individual variability in clinical presentation. At the same time, soluble biomarkers, including cytokines and metabolic regulators, are being explored as tools for improving disease characterization and monitoring. This Research Topic aims to gather contributions that investigate the genetic and molecular basis of inflammation in diabetes and metabolic dysfunction, with a focus on mechanisms that may inform clinical assessment and management.Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:• Genetic and epigenetic variants associated with type 2 diabetes and metabolic dysfunction• Molecular regulation of inflammatory pathways in insulin resistance and glucose homeostasis• Interactions between lipid metabolism and inflammatory signaling in metabolic disease• Gene expression and circulating biomarkers linked to disease susceptibility and progression• Functional impact of genetic variation on endocrine and metabolic pathways• Identification of biomarkers for patient stratification and disease monitoring in diabetes Topic editors: Yeminia Maribel Valle Delgadillo, Daniel Ortuño-Sahagún Source: https://www.frontiersin.org/research-topics/81572/genetic-and-molecular-mechanisms-of-inflammation-in-diabetes-and-metabolic-dysfunction
