Genetic Variations and Molecular Pathways Associated with Cancer Pathogenesis

Cancer arises from a tangle of genetic and epigenetic disruptions: mutations, chromosomal rearrangements, and shifting patterns of gene regulation all play a part. Over the past decade, sequencing and profiling technologies have given us a much clearer picture of how these changes accumulate and interact to drive tumor development, progression, and patient outcomes. More recently, attention has turned to genomic instability itself and how it shapes the tumor microenvironment. But one area still lags behind: non-coding RNAs. Despite growing evidence that they matter, their precise role in cancer biology remains far from settled. This Research Topic looks at the genetics of cancer from both familiar and newer angles. A particular focus is on microRNAs: variants in miRNA genes and in the sequences they target can tip the balance toward tumor suppression or tumor promotion, depending on context, yet the functional consequences of these variants are still poorly mapped. We also want to hear about negative results. A well-designed study that finds no association is still worth publishing, and the field needs more of these to avoid a skewed literature. More broadly, we welcome work on genetic variants, epigenetic changes, SNPs, mutations, and chromosomal abnormalities across any cancer type. The goal is to pull together what is already known with new findings to point toward better tools for prognosis, survival prediction, and treatment. We welcome Original Research, Review, Mini Review, and Perspective articles on themes including:• Genetic variation studies in cancer patients, including whole exome sequencing, NGS, Sanger sequencing, transcriptomics, proteomics, and GWAS• All study types, including wet lab, in vitro, in vivo, patient-based, translational, clinical, and bioinformatics approaches• Population- and ethnicity-based genetic studies• Biomarker identification, disease prognosis, patient survival, and therapeutic strategies Topic editors: Yogita Chhichholiya, Prabhat Suman Source: https://www.frontiersin.org/research-topics/82196/genetic-variations-and-molecular-pathways-associated-with-cancer-pathogenesis
