Geophysical Electromagnetic Exploration Theory, Technology and Application, volume II

This Research Topic is Volume II of a series. The previous volume can be found here: Geophysical Electromagnetic Exploration Theory, Technology and Application Geophysical electromagnetic exploration plays a vital role in mineral resource prospecting, geological structure mapping, groundwater investigation, and environmental monitoring. As the demand for deeper, more accurate subsurface imaging continues to grow, traditional electromagnetic methods face increasing challenges, particularly in terms of exploration depth, spatial resolution, and the reliability of data interpretation. In recent years, significant progress has been made through the development of novel exploration techniques, advanced instrumentation, and improved analytical frameworks. However, the broader adoption and integration of these innovations remain limited, partly due to insufficient cross-disciplinary dissemination and a lack of comprehensive comparative studies. This gap highlights the need for a dedicated platform to showcase recent advances, promote methodological exchange, and stimulate continued progress in the field. This Research Topic aims to highlight and document the latest breakthroughs in geophysical electromagnetic exploration. Its primary objectives are to address key questions related to emerging electromagnetic theories, innovative numerical simulation methods, and advanced data inversion strategies for improved subsurface characterization. It also seeks to evaluate the efficiency, robustness, and applicability of these new approaches across a wide range of geological settings and practical scenarios. By encouraging submissions that span both fundamental research and applied case studies, this Research Topic aims to foster scientific exchange, share practical insights, and identify promising directions for future development. This Research Topic covers a broad range of theoretical and applied studies in geophysical electromagnetic exploration, with a particular emphasis on methodological innovation and practical application. It focuses specifically on electromagnetic approaches and does not extend to unrelated geophysical methods. We welcome contributions, including but not limited to the following themes:• Advances in electromagnetic theory and modeling• Innovative numerical simulation methods for electromagnetic exploration• Advanced techniques for electromagnetic data inversion• Case studies on electromagnetic inversion in geological, hydrological, and environmental applications• Comparative analyses of different electromagnetic exploration methods• Technological developments in electromagnetic exploration instruments and software• Environmental and sustainability considerations in electromagnetic surveyingWe invite submissions in the form of original research articles, reviews, methodological papers, case studies, and perspectives to provide a comprehensive overview of current developments, ongoing challenges, and future directions in the field.
