Global Excellence in Sustainability: Europe - Volume II

This Research Topic is the second volume of “Global Excellence in Sustainability: Europe”.Sustainability is no longer a distant ambition. It is a shared, urgent responsibility shaped by rapid environmental, social and economic change. As we move forward, the need for collaboration across borders, disciplines and perspectives has never been more important. This new volume of the “Global Excellence in Sustainability” Research Topic invites researchers from around the world to contribute to a collective conversation about how we respond to today’s evolving challenges. Building on the success of the previous edition, this new edition places a renewed emphasis on adaptability, resilience and innovation in the face of global uncertainty. While maintaining a strong European perspective, this Research Topic actively embraces international contributions, recognising that sustainability challenges, and their solutions, are inherently interconnected. We particularly welcome interdisciplinary work, including valuable insights from the Humanities, which help us better understand the social, cultural and ethical dimensions of sustainable development. We encourage submissions that not only present robust research but also reflect on real-world impact, lived experiences and forward-looking ideas. Contributions may include original research articles, reviews, perspectives and thought-provoking opinion pieces that inspire dialogue and action, as long as supported by evidence and literature.Potential topics to explore include:• Rethinking consumption and production in an era of shifting global supply chains• Advancing circular economy practices, with a focus on scalability and systemic change• Climate adaptation and resilience, particularly in response to increasingly complex risks• Equity and inclusion in sustainability, ensuring no communities are left behind• Resource innovation and reduction, including sustainable materials and waste transformationAt its core, this second edition seeks to highlight both progress and ongoing challenges, fostering an open and inclusive space for knowledge exchange. By bringing together diverse voices and perspectives, we aim to support meaningful collaboration and contribute to practical, lasting solutions. In a world defined by change, this collection is an opportunity to reflect, rethink and reimagine how sustainability can be advanced, together.
