Global Perspectives on Accreditation and Educational Quality Improvement

Educational quality improvement and accreditation are core functions to ensure excellence, accountability, and public trust in health professions education worldwide. As medical education systems increasingly operate within complex, globalized contexts, there is growing recognition of the need to align continuous quality improvement processes with both local needs and international standards. Accreditation systems, once viewed primarily as regulatory exercises, are now evolving into dynamic drivers of educational innovation, equity, and outcomes-based reform. At the same time, variability in resources, infrastructure, and sociocultural contexts challenges the implementation and impact of quality initiatives across the globe.
