Glocalizing STEM and Technology-Enhanced Learning: Bridging Global Innovation and Local Wisdom for Sustainable Education
In an era defined by digital transformation, education faces the challenge of reconciling global technological innovation with the cultural and contextual richness of local learning environments. This Research Topic explores the glocalization of STEM and Technology-Enhanced Learning (TEL), seeking to integrate global pedagogical perspectives with local wisdom to foster sustainable, culturally responsive education. While technology-based STEM models—driven by advances such as AI, AR/VR, and digital simulations—often reflect universal frameworks, they may overlook contextual diversity and indigenous knowledge. This special issue aims to showcase research and practice that localize global innovations to enhance learning relevance and inclusivity. By drawing from interdisciplinary approaches such as design-based research, cross-cultural studies, and digital pedagogy, the topic envisions a framework that strengthens learners’ global competence, cultural identity, and sustainability awareness. Ultimately, this collection aims to contribute to both theoretical advancement and practical guidance, empowering educators worldwide to design learning experiences that are globally informed, locally grounded, and socially meaningful. The overarching goal of this Research Topic is to bridge global innovation with local wisdom in STEM and Technology-Enhanced Learning (TEL) to advance sustainable and culturally intelligent education. It seeks to stimulate international dialogue and collaboration that redefine how digital transformation supports equity, inclusivity, and cultural relevance in STEM learning. By connecting global technological developments—such as AI literacy, AR/VR, adaptive systems, and serious games—with locally grounded pedagogies and ethical frameworks, this topic envisions a holistic, glocal model of STEM education that promotes diversity, global competence, and community resilience. This Research Topic explores how STEM and Technology-Enhanced Learning (TEL) can be glocalized to create meaningful, equitable, and sustainable education. It invites studies that integrate global technological innovations with local wisdom, culture, and community values. The focus includes: (1) STEM education in local contexts, highlighting culturally relevant curriculum and community-based learning; (2) Technology-Enhanced Learning, emphasizing inclusive, adaptive, and context-sensitive digital pedagogy; (3) AI, AR/VR, and educational games, exploring their potential for culturally situated learning experiences; (4) Culturally responsive and transformative teaching, fostering critical reflection, empowerment, and social relevance in STEM classrooms; and (5) Sustainability-oriented learning, connecting green technologies and environmental awareness with local engagement. Submissions should demonstrate educational impact, cultural relevance, and innovative integration of technology and pedagogy, showing how glocalized STEM and TEL can foster human-centered, sustainable, and culturally intelligent learning ecosystems.
