Growing and Aging Brains: A Primate Perspective on Lifespan Neural Change
This Research Topic aims to advance understanding of how human and nonhuman primate (NHP) brain structure and function evolve across the lifespan, including an emphasis on translational nonhuman primate models. We invite contributions examining developmental and aging-related changes from infancy through geriatric stages, using multimodal approaches such as neuroimaging, electrophysiology transcriptomics and computational modeling.NHPs, including macaques and emerging marmoset models, have long been critical translational models for human neuroscience, offering unique insights into conserved mechanisms of brain development, cognition and aging. Advances in neuroimaging, electrophysiology, spatial transcriptomics and computational neuroscience now allow researchers to examine neural development and aging across the lifespan with unprecedented precision.High-quality empirical contributions that integrate neural data with cognition, emotion, stress, and behavioral measures are especially encouraged. We welcome both cross-sectional and longitudinal designs on human and NHP data, as well as studies linking neural trajectories to resilience, vulnerability, and health outcomes. Comparative and translational perspectives connecting human and NHP findings are strongly encouraged to enhance the broader impact of the collection. Topic editors: Roza M.
