Gynecological Cancers in the Precision Medicine Era
Gynecologic cancers -including ovarian, cervical, and endometrial malignancies- pose significant challenges due to late diagnosis, high recurrence rates, and complex tumor biology. Advances in molecular and cellular biology have improved understanding of carcinogenesis, tumor progression, and the role of the tumor microenvironment, yet translating these findings into effective clinical strategies remains limited. Recent progress in biomarker discovery, targeted therapies, and immunotherapy has begun to reshape patient management, while emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, chemoinformatics, and bioengineered diagnostic platforms offer additional opportunities to enhance early detection and treatment precision. To meet the growing demand for personalized care, there is a critical need to integrate multidisciplinary approaches that align biological discoveries with clinically validated applications in gynecologic oncology. This Research Topic aims to bridge the gap between experimental research and clinical implementation in gynecologic oncology by promoting integrative and translational studies. A central objective is to identify and validate prognostic and predictive biomarkers that can guide personalized therapeutic strategies, particularly in advanced, recurrent, and metastatic disease. The collection will highlight recent advances in targeted therapies, immunotherapy, and combination treatment approaches, alongside emerging strategies such as drug repurposing and natural compound screening supported by chemoinformatics and experimental validation. Furthermore, innovative diagnostic tools -including AI-assisted imaging models and microfluidic-based detection systems- will be explored for their potential clinical applicability. Emphasis will be placed on studies that combine computational insights with experimental, preclinical, or clinical validation, ensuring alignment with current standards in gynecologic oncology research. Ultimately, this Research Topic seeks to accelerate the development of effective, patient-centered interventions that improve survival and quality of life. This collection welcomes multidisciplinary contributions that advance prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of gynecologic malignancies, with a strong emphasis on translational relevance and experimental or clinical validation. Submissions should align with key areas of gynecologic oncology, including molecular and cellular biology, therapeutic development, and patient-centered outcomes. Studies integrating computational approaches (e.g., AI, bioinformatics, chemoinformatics) must include validation through experimental, preclinical, or clinical data.We welcome Original Research, Review, Mini Review and Perspective articles on themes including, but not limited to:- Prognostic and predictive biomarkers in gynecologic cancers- Molecular mechanisms of carcinogenesis and tumor progression- Targeted therapies, immunotherapy, and combination treatment strategies- Drug repurposing and natural product-based therapeutics with experimental validation- AI-assisted diagnostics and imaging with clinical or in situ validation- Tumor microenvironment and immunological interactions- Innovative diagnostic platforms (e.g., microfluidics, biosensors) with translational relevance- Clinical, preclinical, and population-based studies improving personalized carePlease note: manuscripts consisting solely of bioinformatics, computational analysis, or predictions of public databases which are not accompanied by validation (independent clinical or patient cohort, or biological validation in vitro or in vivo, which are not based on public databases) are not suitable for publication in this Research Topic.
