Harnessing Cytokinin Innovation for Enhanced Plant Stress Resilience
Cytokinins, a class of plant hormones, play a pivotal role in regulating growth and development, influencing various physiological processes. Recent research has drawn attention to their potential in fortifying plants against abiotic stresses such as drought, salinity, and extreme temperatures. Despite progress, critical gaps remain in comprehensively understanding cytokinin signaling pathways and their integration with other growth processes. This calls for a deeper investigation into their roles and applications to develop high-yielding, stress-tolerant crops that fit into sustainable agriculture frameworks. This Research Topic aims to explore the role of cytokinins and their intricate signaling pathways in enhancing plant resilience to abiotic stresses. By examining how cytokinins integrate with growth processes, we seek to inform new strategies for developing crops that can withstand challenging environmental conditions. Specific questions include: How do cytokinins modulate stress responses in plants? What are the molecular mechanisms underlying cytokinin-mediated stress resistance? Testing hypotheses around these questions will advance understanding and provide insights into leveraging cytokinins for optimal agricultural output. To gather further insights and accelerate advancements in this promising area, we welcome articles addressing, but not limited to, the following themes:• Interactions of cytokinins with other plant hormones in stress response• Molecular signaling pathways of cytokinins under abiotic stress• Genetic modifications to enhance cytokinin response for crop resilience• Impacts of cytokinins on plant physiology and their contributions to sustainable agriculture• Case studies on field applications of cytokinin-based treatmentsWe invite a variety of article types for submission, which will contribute to a well-rounded understanding of this pivotal research area.Topic Editor Dung Tien Le is employed by Bayer Vegetable Seeds.
