Harnessing Genomic and Coevolutionary Insights for Infectious Disease Management
Infectious disease research has increasingly focused on understanding the evolutionary dynamics that contribute to disease emergence and persistence. This field encompasses a wide range of studies from the genomic level to entire populations, seeking to elucidate the driving forces behind infectious diseases' spread and development. Current studies highlight the importance of genomic insights in identifying how pathogens evolve and adapt, but there remains a significant gap in translating this knowledge into effective disease control strategies. By exploring host-pathogen interactions, researchers have begun to investigate the mechanisms of coevolution and its implications for the persistence and management of infectious diseases. This Research Topic aims to advance our understanding of infectious disease evolution by integrating genomic insights with the study of host-pathogen coevolution. By examining the evolutionary mechanisms at play, and subsequently addressing the interactions between hosts and pathogens, researchers can uncover the consequences of these processes for disease dynamics. Through this comprehensive exploration, the objective is to develop innovative strategies for disease control that are informed by the underlying evolutionary forces governing infectious diseases. To gather further insights in the evolutionary dynamics of infectious disease transmission, we welcome articles addressing, but not limited to, the following themes:-Genomic analyses of pathogen evolution and adaptation-Mechanisms of host-pathogen coevolution and their role in disease emergence-Evolutionary models of infectious disease dynamics at the population levelStrategies for translating genomic and coevolutionary insights into disease control-The role of environmental factors in shaping host-pathogen interactions and coevolutionArticles may be presented in various formats, such as original research, reviews, and case studies, to offer diverse perspectives on navigating the evolutionary forces shaping infectious diseases.
