Health Conditions and Interventions Impacting Women’s Quality of Life
Women’s health research has historically prioritized clinical outcomes, such as mortality rates and disease prevalence. While these metrics are essential, they often fail to capture the holistic lived experience of women navigating chronic diseases, disabilities, and reproductive health conditions. The central problem this Research Topic addresses is the misalignment between clinical "success" and patient-centered well-being. Many medical and surgical interventions come with significant trade-offs, such as long-term side effects or altered daily functioning, which are not always adequately weighed in standard treatment protocols. There is an urgent need to shift the focus toward how specific conditions and their subsequent treatments affect a woman’s ability to function, interact socially, and maintain mental health. To achieve a more comprehensive understanding of women’s health, we must integrate patient-reported outcomes (PROMs) with traditional clinical data. Recent advances in personalized medicine, digital health monitoring, and integrated care models offer new opportunities to assess the long-term impact of interventions. This Research Topic seeks to bridge the gap between clinical intervention and daily functioning. We invite contributors to explore how diseases and health interventions reshape the female experience. We are particularly interested in submissions covering the following themes:• Impact of Chronic Conditions: How endometriosis, PCOS or cardiovascular diseases affect daily life and socioeconomic participation.• Pelvic Floor Integrity Across the Lifespan: Investigating the prevalence and clinical management of pelvic floor dysfunctions from adolescence, through pregnancy and postpartum recovery, to menopause. We seek research on multi-disciplinary approaches (integrating medical, physical, and psychological therapies) to restore long-term quality of life.• Survivorship and Long-term Well-being: Post-treatment life for cancer survivors or those living with chronic disabilities, emphasizing psychological resilience and reintegration• Women’s Quality of Life Across the Lifespan: Addressing health challenges and well-being from adolescence through to the elderly years.• Intervention Evaluation: Assessing medical, surgical interventions with a focus on patient-centered outcomes rather than just biological markersWe welcome a variety of manuscript types to provide a multi-dimensional perspective on this topic, including Original Research, Systematic Reviews and Meta-analyses, Clinical Trials, Case Reports, Perspectives and Policy Briefs.
