Healthy Ageing: Unlocking the Secrets to Longevity

The global population is ageing rapidly, with the World Health Organization projecting that by 2050, over 2 billion people will be aged 60 or older. This demographic shift underscores the urgent need to enhance healthspan— the period of life spent in good health— through targeted interventions. Nutrition plays a pivotal role in modulating ageing processes, influencing cellular repair, inflammation, and metabolic health. Emerging research highlights how dietary patterns, such as Mediterranean or plant-based diets, caloric restriction, and specific micronutrients, can mitigate age-related decline and extend longevity by targeting mechanisms like oxidative stress, epigenetics, and the gut microbiome. However, gaps remain in understanding how personalized nutrition can optimize healthy ageing across diverse populations. This Research Topic aims to explore innovative nutritional strategies, integrating interdisciplinary insights from nutritional science, gerontology, and molecular biology to unlock the secrets to a longer, healthier life.A critical challenge in ageing research is deciphering how nutrition influences genetic, epigenetic, and biological pathways to extend healthspan and mitigate age-related diseases. This Research Topic seeks to address this by promoting studies that explore how dietary interventions, such as caloric restriction, Mediterranean diets, or micronutrient optimization, modulate gene expression, DNA repair, and telomere maintenance to enhance cellular longevity. We aim to elucidate epigenetic mechanisms, including DNA methylation and histone acetylation, driven by diet, and their impact on reducing inflammation and oxidative stress. By fostering a multidisciplinary, science-based approach, we will connect specialists in nutritional science, genetics, epigenetics, and molecular biology to integrate diverse perspectives. Ultimately, this collection aims to inform therapeutic interventions and public health strategies, enhancing longevity and quality of life across diverse populations. This Research Topic explores the role of nutrition in modulating genetic, epigenetic, and biological pathways to enhance healthspan and longevity. We invite contributions addressing:• dietary impacts on gene expression, DNA repair, and telomere maintenance;• epigenetic mechanisms, such as DNA methylation or histone modification, influenced by nutrients;• Clinical outcomes of nutritional interventions on age-related biological changes• biological pathways, including inflammation and oxidative stress, modulated by diets like Mediterranean or caloric restriction; and• personalized nutrition for diverse populationsWe welcome original research, reviews, clinical trials, and meta-analyses that integrate nutritional science, genetics, epigenetics, or molecular biology. Manuscripts should emphasize evidence-based, multidisciplinary approaches to inform therapeutic and public health strategies. Submissions should align with open-access principles to maximize impact, fostering collaboration among specialists to advance innovative solutions for healthy ageing Topic editors: MOUL DEY, Milena Georgieva, OLUFUNKE OLORUNDARE Source: https://www.frontiersin.org/research-topics/73567/healthy-ageing-unlocking-the-secrets-to-longevity
