Hormonal Synchronization and Ovarian Monitoring Strategies for Enhancing Reproductive Efficiency in Tropical Livestock

Reproductive performance in tropical livestock systems is shaped as much by an animal’s physiological capacity to cope with environmental stress as by the reproductive technologies applied to it. Heat stress disrupts endocrine signaling, follicular dynamics, and postpartum recovery, making the physiological basis of fertility management a critical determinant of herd productivity in tropical and subtropical production systems. This Research Topic invites contributions examining how animal physiology and management practices interact to shape reproductive resilience in cattle, small ruminants, and buffalo raised under tropical conditions. We welcome studies addressing, but not limited to:- The physiological refinement of ovulation-synchronization protocols under heat-stress conditions.- The effects of thermal load on hormonal responsiveness and follicular development.- Management adjustments, including nutrition, housing, and cooling strategies, that support protocol efficacy.- Ovarian response monitoring through ultrasonography, antral follicle counts, and hormonal biomarkers.- The use of physiological indicators to guide herd-level reproductive management and decision-making.- Gonadotropin supplementation strategies for managing postpartum and seasonal anovulation as adaptive physiological states rather than isolated clinical interventions.- Comparative reproductive and physiological outcomes across tropical species and management systems.- Links between animal-level physiology and practical, farm-level management decisions.By framing reproductive synchronization and monitoring as physiological management challenges rather than purely clinical procedures, this Research Topic aims to generate insights that support climate-resilient, physiologically informed livestock management in the tropics.
