Immune Dysregulation and Modulation in Onco-Dermatology

Immune dysregulation is a central driver, and therapeutic target, in many dermatologic and oncologic diseases. In the skin, immune imbalance underlies a spectrum of pathological processes ranging from classic autoimmune disorders and graft-versus-host disease (GVHD), to immune-mediated carcinogenesis and resistance to targeted and immunological therapies in immunocompromised or immunosuppressed populations. This Research Topic seeks to bring together mechanistic and clinical investigations at the intersection of immunology and skin oncology. By highlighting advances in biologics, immunomodulation, transplant-related complications, and immune-mediated mechanisms underlying skin cancer, our goal is to foster collaboration between laboratory researchers and clinicians, and to accelerate progress in translational and evidence-based patient care.To capture the breadth and depth of current research, we welcome original research, clinical trials, reviews, protocols, and perspectives that address (but are not limited to) the following topics:• Immune mechanisms of graft-versus-host disease and other transplant-associated dermatologic complications, including risks for cutaneous malignancy and management strategies.• The role of immunosuppression, post-transplant, iatrogenic, or disease-related, in predisposing to or altering the course of skin cancers.• Biologics and immunomodulatory agents used in the management of inflammatory or autoimmune skin disease, and their downstream effects on skin cancer risk and behavior.• Immune escape and resistance to targeted or immunological therapies specifically in immunocompromised or chronically immunosuppressed patient populations.• Translational and mechanistic studies on the interplay between autoimmune or inflammatory skin disease and oncogenesis, or how immune modulation shapes tumor behavior and patient outcomes.• Diagnostic and management challenges in skin cancer arising in the context of background immunosuppressive or immunomodulatory therapy (e.g., transplant regimens, biologics for autoimmune disease).Submissions should emphasize translational or clinical relevance, and advance the understanding or practice of immune-based strategies in dermatologic oncology. General work on skin disease or cancer unrelated to immune modulation will be deprioritized. Real-world studies, mechanistic investigations, and clinical evidence are all welcome, and we invite you to submit Original Research, Clinical Trial articles, Reviews, Protocols, and Perspectives that bridge gaps from bench to bedside and improve outcomes for patients at the crossroad of immunity and cutaneous oncology. Please note: manuscripts consisting solely of bioinformatics, computational analysis, or predictions of public databases which are not accompanied by validation (independent clinical or patient cohort, or biological validation in vitro or in vivo, which are not based on public databases) are not suitable for publication in this journal.
