Immune Gatekeepers of Regeneration: Mechanistic Insights and Therapeutic Frontiers
The regenerative capacity of tissues is inextricably linked to the immune system, whose dual role as both facilitator and barrier shapes the trajectory of healing. As regenerative medicine advances—from bioengineered scaffolds to cell-free therapies such as extracellular vesicles and secretomes—a detailed understanding of immune-regenerative crosstalk has become imperative. This collection explores how immune responses are modulated in the context of tissue repair, with a focus on chronic inflammation, rare pathologies, and tumor microenvironments. We seek to highlight mechanistic studies dissecting immune signaling pathways, the influence of nanoscale structures such as the biomolecular corona, and the emerging role of immune profiling technologies. Particular interest lies in contributions that reveal new immunological barriers, identify actionable molecular targets, or propose innovative strategies to redirect immune activity toward regenerative outcomes. We welcome the submission of Original Research, Review, Mini Review, and Perspective articles on themes including, but not limited to:Cellular and molecular drivers of immune modulation in regenerative contextsImmune effects of extracellular vesicles, secretomes, and biomaterialsBarriers to regeneration in chronic diseases, rare disorders, and cancerTherapeutic engineering to manipulate immune-regenerative dynamicsNovel tools and models for immunological analysis in regenerative medicine Topic editors: Andrea Papait, Antonietta Rosa Silini, Yuseok Moon Source: https://www.frontiersin.org/research-topics/73333/immune-gatekeepers-of-regeneration-mechanistic-insights-and-therapeutic-frontiers
