Immuno-Metabolic Regulation of Antigen Presentation
The study of immuno-metabolism explores how metabolic processes influence the immune system, particularly via antigen presentation. Recent findings reveal that metabolic pathways play a crucial role in modulating the function of antigen-presenting cells (APCs), including dendritic cells and macrophages. These cells serve as key interfaces where metabolic activities and immune responses converge, leading to either the promotion or inhibition of immune defense mechanisms. Despite advancements in the field, critical gaps remain in our understanding of how specific metabolic processes selectively affect antigen presentation, thus driving both innate and adaptive immune responses. Addressing these knowledge deficiencies is essential for advancing our comprehension of immuno-metabolic regulation. This Research Topic aims to deepen our understanding of the way metabolic pathways influence immune responses through antigen presentation. The main objective is to unravel the mechanisms by which metabolic changes impact APC functionality and subsequent immune responses. Additionally, the topic is designed to investigate how disruptions in cellular metabolism can be harnessed as therapeutic levers to manage or potentially cure immune-related disorders, including autoimmunity, cancer, and infectious diseases. To gather further insights into this complex interplay, we focus primarily on immuno-metabolic interactions at the cellular level and their implications for disease management. We welcome articles addressing, but not limited to, the following themes:- Metabolic regulation of dendritic cells and macrophages- The impact of metabolism on the peptide loading of MHC molecules- Comparative studies on metabolic interventions and their effects on antigen presentation- Mechanistic studies of metabolic pathways affecting antigen processing and presentation- Translational research bridging metabolic manipulation and immune modulationThese themes aim to unravel the intricate relationship between cellular metabolism and immune function, paving the way for innovative therapeutic strategies that leverage metabolic pathways to modulate immune responses effectively.(The Topic Editors confirm that they have no conflicts of interest to declare with regards to their editorship of the collection.)
