Immunometabolism and Inflammatory Crosstalk in Type 2 Diabetes

Type 2 diabetes (T2D) is closely associated with chronic low-grade inflammation and immune-mediated metabolic dysfunction. Increasing evidence highlights the important role of immunometabolic interactions in regulating insulin resistance, tissue inflammation, and metabolic homeostasis across adipose tissue, liver, skeletal muscle, and pancreatic islets. This Research Topic aims to explore the molecular and cellular mechanisms linking immune activation with metabolic disease progression in T2D. We welcome studies investigating innate and adaptive immune signaling, macrophage and monocyte activation, cytokine and chemokine networks, oxidative and cellular stress pathways, and immune-metabolic communication between key metabolic tissues. Particular interest will be given to studies addressing inflammasome activation, lipotoxicity, extracellular vesicles, gut microbiota, and emerging therapeutic strategies targeting metabolic inflammation. Both mechanistic and translational studies that advance the understanding of immunometabolic regulation and identify novel therapeutic targets for T2D and related metabolic complications are encouraged.Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:• Immunometabolic regulation in type 2 diabetes• Adipose tissue inflammation and insulin resistance• Monocyte and macrophage activation in metabolic disease• Cytokine, chemokine, and inflammasome signaling pathways• Oxidative stress and cellular stress responses in T2D• Gut microbiota and immune-metabolic interactions• Lipotoxicity and tissue inflammation• Extracellular vesicles and inter-organ metabolic communication• β-cell dysfunction and inflammatory stress responses• Novel therapeutic approaches targeting metabolic inflammation Topic editors: Sardar Sindhu, Rasheed Ahmad Source: https://www.frontiersin.org/research-topics/82505/immunometabolism-and-inflammatory-crosstalk-in-type-2-diabetes
