Implementation Science in Psychiatry - Integrating Systems, Workforce, and Technology into Care
Implementation science in psychiatry rapidly evolving and adapting to apply evidence-based interventions into real-world practice. Despite these developments, there are still gaps in ensuring continuity of care, treatment availability, interdisciplinary collaboration and developing the workforce. Current challenges include how to best integrate psychiatric services within broader social and community-based systems and addressing the sustainable use of technology in diverse care settings. Although advances in digital tools and data-driven approaches have demonstrated promise – workforce training on data-informed clinical decision-making, organizational readiness, structural barriers, and ethical concerns limit scalability and adoption of these advances. There is a growing recognition that implementation science must address not only technological adoption, but also the structural, organizational, and workforce factors that determine the success and sustainability of service transformation. This Research Topic aims to identify and evaluate effective strategies for integrating systems, workforce development, and technology into psychiatric care. We aim to explore how organizations and practitioners can overcome barriers to implementation, build digital competencies, promote collaboration, and advance ethical and equitable care.Papers should aim to build an understanding of context-sensitive and scalable approaches for the integration of digital and evidence-based practices in psychiatric care and real-world systems, particularly addressing integration of technology and workforce readiness. We welcome articles on, but not limited to, the following themes:- Integration of psychiatric services within broader social and community-based systems for continuity of care and well-being.- Organizational readiness for incorporating evidence-based psychiatric interventions.- Workforce development with an emphasis on interdisciplinary collaboration.- Structural determinants shaping the sustainability of psychiatric services.- Implementation of AI and data-informed clinical decision-making.- Utilization of computational or technology-driven approaches in care delivery.- Ethical, equity, and access issues in the technological transformation of psychiatric care.- Global-to-local translation and contextual adaptation of digital psychiatric solutions.- Development of digital competencies within psychiatric workforces.
