Innovations in Environmental Radiation and Radioactivity Measurement
Environmental science has seen a significant shift towards advanced technologies in measuring radiation, reflecting increased interest in accurately quantifying both natural and anthropogenic radiation sources. Advanced technologies are needed to ensure environmental safety, public health, and regulatory compliance. Recent research highlights emerging innovations such as new detection technologies, portable devices, and advanced spectroscopy techniques. Such developments are vital for improving the accuracy of environmental radiation assessments. However, challenges persist, including the need for enhancements in sensitivity, accuracy, real-time data collection, and the differentiation capabilities of radiation sensors. This Research Topic will explore the latest advancements and address the continuing challenges in the field of environmental radiation measurement. Topics within the scope of this collection include improving the detection limits of low-level radiation, enhancing the portability and usability of monitoring instruments in field applications, and developing methods to effectively distinguish between radioactive isotopes. Research on the integration of continuous monitoring systems that can manage and interpret large datasets and make radiation data more accessible and understandable to the public is also welcome. To gather further insights into the efficient and precise measurement of environmental radiation, we welcome articles addressing, but not limited to, the following themes:• New detection technologies and their application in environmental monitoring• Methods to minimize measurement errors in various conditions• Portable and remote sensing instruments for field use• Gamma and alpha spectroscopy for specific isotope identification• Automated and continuous radiation monitoring systems• Innovations in low dose and long-term radiation monitoring• Environmental modeling and simulation tools for radiation dispersion• Techniques for creating accurate environmental radiation maps.
