Innovations in Molecular Diagnostics and Treatments for Cerebrovascular Disorders, Volume II
This Research Topic is Volume II of a series. The previous volume, which has published over 20 papers, can be found here:Innovations in Molecular Diagnostics and Treatments for Cerebrovascular Disorders.Cerebrovascular diseases, which include ischemic stroke, cerebral hemorrhage, and cerebrovascular malformations, rank among the foremost causes of global disability and death. The complexity of these conditions stems from the intricate pathophysiological mechanisms at the molecular level, which remain only partially elucidated. This insufficient understanding presents significant obstacles in developing targeted therapies, as current treatments inadequately address critical processes such as neuroinflammation, blood-brain barrier (BBB) disruption, and cellular death. The evolving landscape of molecular biology offers novel insights into these mechanisms, facilitating the emergence of groundbreaking biomarkers and paving the way for precise therapeutic interventions. Advances in molecular technologies enable the exploration of disease pathways with unprecedented detail, holding the promise of refining early diagnostic and personalized treatment strategies in cerebrovascular disorders, thereby positively impacting patient care and clinical outcomes. The primary goal of this Research Topic is to bridge the existing gaps in understanding the molecular intricacies of cerebrovascular diseases and spur advancements in therapeutic and diagnostic innovation. By spotlighting cutting-edge molecular bioscience research, this topic intends to foster a comprehensive elucidation of novel molecular pathways, with a particular focus on signaling, epigenetics, and neuron-vascular unit (NVU) dysfunctions. Moreover, it seeks to uncover and validate new molecular biomarkers utilizing techniques such as omics and exosome methodologies. This will ultimately facilitate early diagnosis, improved monitoring, and the design of targeted therapies—including gene and CRISPR therapies, nanocarrier-mediated drug delivery, and other pathway-specific interventions—thereby driving forward the clinical management of cerebrovascular disorders.Focusing on the molecular pathobiology and innovation in cerebrovascular diseases, this Research Topic welcomes articles addressing a spectrum of themes. These include:• Molecular mechanisms: Understanding signaling pathways implicated in ischemia/reperfusion injury, such as inflammation and oxidative stress, alongside elucidation of BBB disruption mechanisms and epigenetic regulation.• Biomarkers & diagnostics: Development of early diagnostic markers via proteomics and metabolomics, and study of exosomal and circulating nucleic acid dynamics.• Therapeutic advances: Exploration of neuroprotectant designs targeting specific pathways like NLRP3/SIRT1, nanodelivery systems that penetrate the BBB, and gene therapies such as CRISPR/Cas9 and AAV.• Neurovascular interactions: Investigating NVU dynamics and glial-vascular communication.• Technology & translation: Leveraging organ-on-a-chip models and AI-driven molecular profiling to predict disease risks and treatment responses.Manuscript types: Original Research, Reviews, Mini-Reviews, Perspectives, FAIR² Data, and Brief Research Reports.
