Insights in Cell Growth and Division: 2026
Cell growth and division are fundamental processes that sustain life and ensure the proper development and maintenance of tissues in multicellular organisms. Understanding the molecular and cellular mechanisms that regulate these processes is critical for advancing our knowledge of development, physiology, and disease progression. Dysregulation of cell growth and division can lead to cancer, developmental disorders, and degenerative diseases, making it an important focus of biomedical research. This editorial initiative of particular relevance, led by Prof. Philipp Kaldis, Specialty Chief Editor of the ‘Cell Growth and Division’ section, Dr. Chen-Chun Pai and Dr. Raj Logan, is focused on new insights, novel developments, current challenges, latest discoveries, recent advances, and future perspectives in the field of cell growth and division. This Research Topic aims to provide a comprehensive overview of the latest advances in the field and to highlight emerging directions that may shape future research. Contributions that explore the regulation of the cell cycle, signaling pathways controlling growth and division, mechanisms of cell size determination, and the co-ordination between growth and proliferation are particularly welcome. Studies investigating how external cues such as nutrients, growth factors, and mechanical signals influence cell behavior will also be of interest. In addition to mechanistic studies, this collection seeks work that integrates systems biology approaches, imaging techniques, and computational modeling to provide a holistic understanding of cell growth and division. Studies exploring underlying biological mechanisms, innovative interventions, and novel experimental approaches are particularly encouraged. We also welcome contributions that address therapeutic approaches, spanning from bench to bedside, including preclinical studies, translational research, and clinical applications. The role of stem cells in tissue homeostasis and regeneration, the impact of aging on proliferation, and the interplay between growth and metabolic states are key topics that will be included. Contributions that examine how targeted interventions can modulate cell growth and division or that introduce new methodologies to study these processes are especially welcome. The goal of this special edition Research Topic is to shed light on the progress made in the past decade in understanding different aspects of cell growth and division as well as its future challenges, thereby providing a thorough overview of the field. This collection will inspire, inform and provide direction and guidance to researchers in the field.
