Insights in Pediatric Endocrinology: 2026

Pediatric endocrinology continues to advance in the understanding, diagnosis, and treatment of hormonal disorders affecting children and adolescents. Progress in genetics, molecular biology, imaging, biomarkers, and therapeutic approaches is expanding knowledge of endocrine development and disease. At the same time, important challenges remain in recognizing disorders early, understanding their effects across growth and development, and ensuring that advances translate into effective and equitable care.Following on from the previous edition of “Insights in Pediatric Endocrinology,” this Research Topic aims to present a broad view of current progress and emerging questions across the field. The collection will bring together work that advances understanding of pediatric endocrine biology, examines clinical challenges, and explores how new evidence can inform diagnosis, treatment, monitoring, and long-term outcomes. Building on earlier editions, it will reflect the breadth of pediatric endocrinology rather than focus on a single disorder or subspecialty. We welcome papers focusing on, but not limited to:• Growth, growth disorders, growth factors, and the use and outcomes of growth-promoting therapies.• Puberty, reproductive endocrinology, sexual differentiation and development, and disorders of sex development.• Childhood obesity, lipid and metabolic disorders, diabetes, and their endocrine and cardiometabolic consequences.• Bone and mineral metabolism, including calcium, phosphorus, vitamin D, and skeletal health.• Disorders of the thyroid, adrenal glands, pituitary, and hypothalamic-pituitary axes, including genetic and acquired conditions.• Congenital, genetic, and rare endocrine disorders, as well as pediatric endocrine tumors and hypoglycemia.• Fetal and perinatal influences on endocrine development, long-term outcomes, transition to adult care, and approaches that improve access, quality of life, and health equity. The collection seeks to highlight recent findings, address unresolved questions, and identify priorities for future research and clinical practice. We invite contributions that deepen understanding of endocrine conditions in young people and help improve care across childhood, adolescence, and the transition to adulthood.
