Integrating regenerative medicine and biomechanics for enhanced shoulder recovery

The field of shoulder injury management is rapidly evolving due to advances in regenerative medicine and biomechanical assessment. Despite this progress, practical integration of biologic therapies and objective movement analysis into daily rehabilitation protocols remains inconsistent, particularly as patient expectations increase in athletic, occupational, and general populations. Recent years have witnessed remarkable achievements in basic science—such as breakthroughs with platelet-rich plasma, stem cell-based interventions, and tissue engineering—as well as in technology, including motion capture systems, wearables, and advanced musculoskeletal modeling. However, translating these scientific and technological advances into effective, function-oriented strategies that reliably restore shoulder performance still presents a major challenge.Amid growing recognition of functional outcomes as the benchmark for successful recovery, this Research Topic aims to bridge gaps between laboratory research, clinical protocols, and real-world results. The objective is to accelerate the translation of regenerative and biomechanical innovations into frameworks that more effectively restore movement, prevent recurrence, and enhance shoulder durability. By fostering interdisciplinary approaches, this Topic seeks to connect regenerative mechanisms with kinematic assessment and customized rehabilitation pathways, addressing critical questions around optimal protocols, timing, and integration of biologic and biomechanical tools within patient-centered care. This research topic is focused on original and translational studies that combine biomedical innovation with objective functional assessment to optimize shoulder recovery. Articles should present, discuss, or critically appraise methods, technologies, and paradigms that directly link biologic healing, biomechanical performance, and individualized patient outcomes. To advance the field, contributions are welcomed in, but not restricted to, the following themes:o Regenerative therapies: Preclinical and clinical trials involving PRP, stem cells, exosomes, and tissue engineering for shoulder injurieso Biomechanical assessment and shoulder function: Motion capture, wearables, load analysis, and muscle coordination modelingo Rehabilitation and functional restoration: Integration of regenerative interventions with neuromuscular control, progressive loading, and return-to-function protocolso Technology-enabled monitoring: Tele-rehabilitation platforms, biofeedback systems, and advanced data analytics for recovery trackingo Translational outcomes: Studies correlating biological healing with functional performance and individualized care strategies Topic editors: Samihah Abdul Karim, Shazlin Shaharudin Source: https://www.frontiersin.org/research-topics/87495/integrating-regenerative-medicine-and-biomechanics-for-enhanced-shoulder-recovery
