Integrating Systematic and Personalized Therapies for Advancing Gastrointestinal Disease Management
Gastroenterology is experiencing a paradigm shift from traditional, single-pathway treatment frameworks to precision-driven approaches that integrate systematic and personalized therapies. Historically, management strategies for gastrointestinal diseases such as inflammatory bowel disease, liver disorders, and gastrointestinal cancers emphasized standard therapeutic algorithms that often disregarded individual variability in disease biology. Recent developments in molecular diagnostics, high-throughput sequencing, and organoid modeling have illuminated the heterogeneous nature of these diseases, emphasizing the limitations of uniform treatment modalities. Despite significant advances, challenges remain in bridging systematic multimodal interventions with patient-specific adaptations guided by genomic and phenotypic data. The integration of these two paradigms promises a transformative improvement in clinical outcomes, optimizing both therapeutic efficacy and patient quality of life. This Research Topic aims to explore innovative frameworks that synergize systematic and personalized treatment principles in gastrointestinal diseases. The objective is to identify the optimal balance between multidisciplinary coordination and individualized adaptation in treatment planning. Authors are encouraged to address questions such as how omics-based precision tools can reshape clinical decision-making, what novel biomarkers may guide dynamic therapeutic adjustments, and how artificial intelligence can facilitate predictive modeling for individualized care. Furthermore, it seeks to evaluate resistance mechanisms, integration of real-world data, and translational pathways supporting long-term clinical application of these strategies. The scope of this Research Topic encompasses comprehensive investigations into translational, clinical, and technological advancements. It focuses on developing a cross-disciplinary understanding of how to integrate precision methodologies within existing systematic frameworks for gastrointestinal disease treatment. To gather further insights into the evolving landscape of systematic and personalized medicine, we welcome articles addressing, but not limited to, the following themes:• Optimization of multidisciplinary and multimodal treatment pathways• Omics-based approaches including transcriptomics, proteomics, and metabolomics for therapy personalization• Novel biomarkers for dynamic monitoring and treatment adjustment• Mechanisms of resistance and reversal strategies in targeted and immunotherapies• Artificial intelligence–assisted algorithms for individualized clinical decision-making• Translation of laboratory models such as organoids into clinical practice• Real-world evidence and prospective clinical trials advancing personalized gastrointestinal therapies Topic editors: Wensi Tao, Ammad Ahmad Farooqi, Shigao Huang Source: https://www.frontiersin.org/research-topics/81012/integrating-systematic-and-personalized-therapies-for-advancing-gastrointestinal-disease-management
