International Women's Day 2026: Investing in Women’s Mental Health, Resilience and Wellbeing

This Research Topic highlights research that advances understanding of women’s mental health and identifies effective ways to promote resilience and wellbeing across the life course. We welcome contributions that examine risk and protective factors, prevention and early intervention, and the social, biological, and cultural contexts that shape mental health outcomes for women and girls. We are interested in receiving papers on perinatal mental health, trauma and gender-based violence, caregiving burden, workplace stress, migration and displacement, chronic illness and disability, and mental health in adolescence, midlife, and older age. Submissions may address common and severe mental disorders (e.g., depression, anxiety, PTSD, substance use, eating disorders), comorbidity, and the role of hormones, sleep, and neurobiology. We also encourage research on community-based programs, digital and stepped-care models, culturally adapted interventions, and policies that improve access, quality, and equity of care—especially for underserved populations.By integrating clinical, public health, and lived-experience perspectives, this collection aims to inform actionable, scalable approaches that strengthen women’s mental health, resilience, and wellbeing worldwide.
