IUPAP Early Career Scientist Prizes 2024–2026: Outstanding Contributions to Pure and Applied Physics

Physics advances through the ideas and determination of each new generation of researchers. For almost two decades, the International Union of Pure and Applied Physics (IUPAP) has recognized outstanding physicists in the early stages of their careers through the IUPAP Early Career Scientist Prizes (formerly Young Scientist Prizes). Awarded by each of the IUPAP Commissions and Affiliated Commissions, the prizes span the entire breadth of physics: from particles, nuclei and fields to condensed matter, optics, plasmas, astrophysics, biological physics, statistical physics, computational physics and more. A dedicated Interdisciplinary Early Career Scientist Award further honors work that bridges the subfields of two or more Commissions. This Research Topic brings together Mini Reviews written by recipients of the IUPAP Early Career Scientist Prizes and the Interdisciplinary Early Career Scientist Prize for the years 2024–2026 . Each contribution presents, in accessible form, the research for which the author was recognized: the scientific context, the key results and methods, and the open questions and directions ahead. Taken together, the articles offer a snapshot of the most exciting developments across physics as seen by some of the field's most promising researchers, and a glimpse of where the discipline may be heading in the coming decade.Important Note: Contributions to this Research Topic are by invitation only and take the form of Mini Reviews by IUPAP prize recipients.
