Ketogenic Diets in Metabolic Disorder Management

Metabolic disorders, including obesity, insulin resistance, prediabetes, type 2 diabetes, metabolic syndrome, and metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease, remain major global nutrition-related challenges. Among the dietary strategies attracting the greatest scientific and clinical interest are ketogenic diets. While ketogenic approaches may improve glycemic control, triglycerides, and weight loss in selected populations, important questions remain regarding long-term adherence, nutrient adequacy, medication adjustment, individual variability in response, and the relative importance of food quality versus macronutrient distribution. This Research Topic aims to bring together high-quality human nutrition research that examines how ketogenic diets can be used and adapted for the prevention and management of metabolic disorders. We welcome mechanistic, clinical, behavioral, and translational studies that help define which ketogenic dietary models work best, for whom, and under what conditions. Submissions that integrate metabolic outcomes with food quality, microbiome science, and precision nutrition perspectives are especially encouraged.Themes of interest include:• Clinical effects of ketogenic diets on glycemic control, body composition, lipid metabolism, blood pressure, inflammation, and liver-related outcomes• Diet quality, nutrient adequacy, food processing, and formulation of well-designed ketogenic therapeutic dietary patterns• Precision nutrition, phenotyping, and predictors of response, including age, sex, ethnicity, metabolic status, and comorbidities• Gut microbiota, metabolomics, nutrigenomics, and other mechanisms linking ketogenic dietary patterns to metabolic health• Adherence, acceptability, digital support, medication deprescribing, and real-world implementation in diverse populations Topic editors: Patrycja Bronowicka-Adamska, Malgorzata Tyszka-Czochara Source: https://www.frontiersin.org/research-topics/81154/ketogenic-diets-in-metabolic-disorder-management
