Low-Carbon Hydrogen Production and Applications

In response to the global imperative of mitigating climate change, the quest for sustainable energy solutions has become paramount. Among these, hydrogen has emerged as a versatile and promising candidate, offering a pathway towards decarbonizing various sectors such as transportation, industry, and power generation. As we stand at the intersection of technological innovation and environmental stewardship, this special issue delves into the multifaceted realm of low-carbon hydrogen production and its diverse applications. With a focus on advancing both theoretical understanding and practical implementation, the collection of articles within this issue aims to elucidate the complex challenges and opportunities inherent in the transition towards a hydrogen-based economy. From renewable energy sources such as solar and wind to advanced methods of electrolysis and biomass conversion, the landscape of low-carbon hydrogen production is rich with possibilities. However, realizing the full potential of hydrogen as a clean energy carrier necessitates not only technological breakthroughs but also comprehensive assessments of economic viability, policy frameworks, and societal acceptance. Through interdisciplinary collaboration and rigorous research, this special issue seeks to shed light on the various dimensions of low-carbon hydrogen production, offering insights that can inform decision-making processes and accelerate the transition towards a sustainable energy future. This research topic focuses on various systems, methods, and processes for low-carbon hydrogen production and its application in different sectors. This research topic seeks solutions for the following:• Production of hydrogen with low or zero carbon emissions either from renewables or fossil resources • Development of novel catalysts for hydrogen production focusing on material synthesis, characterization, and testing• Effective conversion of renewable sources into hydrogen to produce green hydrogen and its utilization in different applications• Optimization and experimental studies on bio-hydrogen production from different bio-pathways where the source of hydrogen is not a fossil resourceThis special article collection invites selected papers from the 14th International Conference on Hydrogen Production (ICH2P-2023). All researchers in the world working on these subjects are welcome to submit a manuscript. We welcome the submission of Original Research, Review, Mini Review, and Perspective articles on themes including, but not limited to:• Carbon capture, conversion, and utilization with hydrogen• Hydrogen production technologies• Hydrogen separation and purification• Hydrogen storage and materials• Materials science and engineering for hydrogen technologies• Methanol and other hydrogen-based fuels• Modelling, simulation and optimization studies• Reforming, cracking and gasification• Renewable hydrogen technologies and applications• Hydrogen carriers• Synthetic/alternative fuels• Waste to hydrogen technologies Topic editors: Yusuf Bicer, Tareq Al-Ansari, Fengqi You Source: https://www.frontiersin.org/research-topics/63333/low-carbon-hydrogen-production-and-applications
