Low-Enthalpy Geothermal Energy Systems: Resource Assessment, Reservoir Modeling, and Sustainable Utilization

Low-enthalpy geothermal energy is a widespread and underutilized pathway to decarbonizing heating, cooling, and direct-use energy supply. Despite its potential, key gaps remain in subsurface characterization, groundwater-thermal interaction, reservoir simulation, and economic viability across diverse geological settings. This Research Topic brings together field-based, modeling, and sustainability perspectives to accelerate the responsible development of low-enthalpy geothermal systems in support of global clean energy goals.Goal:The goal of this Research Topic is to advance knowledge on low-enthalpy geothermal systems from subsurface resource assessment through to sustainable utilization, highlighting progress in exploration, reservoir modeling, and environmental and economic frameworks for deployment at scale.Scope and information for Authors:We welcome focused contributions that advance the science and practice of low-enthalpy geothermal energy development. Topics can include:• Geothermal resource characterization, exploration, and energy potential assessment• Reservoir simulation, numerical modeling, and digital twin approaches for subsurface thermal systems• Groundwater-thermal interactions, subsurface heat flow, and water-rock geochemistry• Environmental sustainability, life cycle assessment, and techno-economic analysis of geothermal systems Topic editors: Dr. Susmita Goswami, Abhishek Rai Source: https://www.frontiersin.org/research-topics/83248/low-enthalpy-geothermal-energy-systems-resource-assessment-reservoir-modeling-and-sustainable-utilization
