Macrophage Immunometabolism and Immune Resolution Across Different Tissue Niches
This research topic aims to show how macrophage and monocyte immunometabolism influences immune resolution in disease and how these processes are reflected within tissue-specific macrophage niches. We explore critical questions, such as which metabolic pathways enable macrophages to transition from inflammatory responses to resolution and tissue repair. The research topic also considers how factors like obesity and metabolic syndrome reprogram myeloid metabolism, leading to increased vascular inflammation and higher cardiometabolic risk in patients. It integrates mechanistic and systems approaches to identify therapeutic targets and biomarkers to improve patient stratification and develop strategies to restore immune resolution, thereby minimizing organ damage. This research topic welcomes mechanistic, spatial, and translational studies on how immunometabolic pathways influence immune resolution in autoimmune diseases across tissue macrophage niches. We invite submissions of original research, reviews/mini-reviews, perspectives, and methods articles.
